Privacy Policy
Last updated October 6, 2026 · Operator: MODL
MODL is a virtual try-on and styling app. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email support@getmodl.app — a real person reads every message.
What we collect
Account
- Account identifier — the email from Sign in with Apple (which can be an Apple private-relay address), Google Sign-In, or email/password registration
- Display name (optional; you control whether to set one)
- Profile photo (optional)
Body photo
The full-length photo you take or choose during onboarding. Framing is checked on your phone first, and nothing is uploaded until you use the photo. We store it and send it to Google (Vertex AI and the Gemini API) each time you ask for a try-on, together with the garment. Your body photo is only ever used to generate your own try-ons.
Closet, Wants and outfit photos
Try-ons you save (Wants), pieces you own and add by photo or search (My Closet, Pro), and the garment photos you try on — with brand, category, color, and any size notes you add — and the outfit photos you add when you log what you wore.
Screenshots you shop from
If you use Shop Your Screenshot, the image you choose is analyzed to find the pieces in it, and a crop of a piece is sent for a visual product search. The temporary copy made for that search is deleted right after.
Styling, shopping & usage activity
Taps, saves, skips, try-ons, style picks, and brand preferences, plus the retailer sites (domain names) you open in MODL's in-app browser and the products you click through to. This event-level activity is tied to your account, is never sold or shared with advertisers, and is used to personalize your styling and to understand how MODL is used so we can improve it.
Measurements
Height, weight, chest, waist, preferred size, and gender — used for AI size recommendations and styling. All optional except gender, which try-on renders need.
Calendar events
Only if you allow calendar access. MODL reads the titles and start times of your events for the day ahead and sends the titles and start times to its AI stylist so your outfit fits your day. Notes, attendees, and locations never leave your phone. MODL only adds an event to your calendar when you tap Add to Calendar on a plan.
Approximate location
Only if you allow location access. Your approximate coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo to get local weather; MODL doesn't store them or track your movements. When you save or log an outfit, the day's weather and your city name are saved with it.
Device & technical information
iOS version, device model, locale, your timezone (so the daily fit arrives at your local hour), and a push notification token if you allow notifications. Crash reports and performance data are linked to your account ID so we can fix problems you run into.
Subscription status
Whether you're on MODL Pro, a free trial, or the free tier, your subscription purchase history, and your try-on pack purchases and remaining pack balance, which we receive from Apple. Apple handles billing entirely — we never see your card or payment details.
How we use it
- Generate virtual try-ons from your body photo and a garment photo
- Identify garments, detect the pieces in a screenshot, and find where to buy them
- Recommend sizes based on your measurements and each brand's fit notes
- Style your day on the Today tab from your closet, calendar, weather, and taste history
- Send the notifications you turn on — try-on results, your daily fit, and reminders (change them anytime in Account → Preferences → Notifications)
- Fix crashes and understand, in aggregate, how MODL is used
- Show anonymous, aggregate popularity, like the stores most tried on at MODL in the past two weeks, counted only from the try-ons signed-in people save. It never identifies you or anyone else: a store appears only after at least five different people have saved a try-on from it, and only when at least thirty people saved try-ons in that period.
We do not:
- Sell your data to third parties
- Use your data for advertising or track you across apps
- Share your photos with anyone outside the providers listed below, unless you share them yourself
Who sees your data
We use the following service providers to run MODL. Each receives only what it needs for the job described, and each has its own privacy policy.
- Supabase — our database, file storage, and sign-in backend. Holds your account, photos, closet, and activity. Supabase's privacy policy.
- Google Cloud Vertex AI and the Google Gemini API — receive your body photo and garment photos to render try-ons, and photos and text for garment identification, styling (including calendar event titles and times, if allowed), size recommendations, and screenshot look detection. Google also handles Google Sign-In if you choose it. Google's privacy policy.
- SerpApi — receives a crop of a garment from a screenshot you choose and runs a Google Lens visual search for matching products. SerpApi's legal terms.
- Open-Meteo — receives approximate coordinates to return the weather. MODL does not store them. Open-Meteo's terms.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, subscription billing through StoreKit, and push notification delivery. Apple's privacy policy.
- Sentry — receives crash reports and performance diagnostics, linked to your account ID and email so we can follow up on problems. Never receives your photos or screenshots of the app. Sentry's privacy policy.
Retailer websites you open in MODL's in-app browser see your visit the way any browser visit is seen; their own privacy policies apply.
Your photos
Your photos are stored at unlisted, unguessable links that aren't indexed. Anyone who has a link can view that image, so only share links you're comfortable sharing. We don't use your photos to train AI models.
Shared looks
When you share a try-on, a look or an outfit, MODL creates a link anyone with it can open, at getmodl.app/look/…. Whoever has the link can see that look's image — for a try-on, that's the image of you wearing the piece — and its pieces (brand, name and a shop link), in the MODL app or on that web page. Your name and account details aren't shown, and these pages aren't indexed by search engines.
Turn a link off with Stop sharing on the look (on a saved look, or by opening the link yourself in MODL), or all at once in Account → Shared links; a link stops working within a few minutes. Deleting a saved try-on, or a piece you styled looks with, turns their links off too. For an outfit you logged, you can also tap Make private on the look, or remove the outfit, to turn its link off. An image someone has already opened may stay reachable at the address they opened it from for a while after that, and copies already sent in a chat, such as a link preview image, stay with the people you sent them to.
Links for try-ons and looks, Stop sharing and Shared links need MODL 1.17 or later. Earlier versions create a link only for an outfit you logged: turn it off there with Make private, or email support@getmodl.app and we'll turn any link off for you.
Your choices
Account deletion
Account tab → Delete Account (below Sign Out). This permanently removes your account, body photos, try-on images and saved looks, closet, logged outfits, calendar plans, measurements, and activity. It can't be undone. It takes effect immediately; stored files are removed within minutes, including the garment photos you added. A record of any try-on pack purchases, tied only to a random account number, is kept for accounting; unused pack try-ons are lost. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store subscription — cancel that in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
Get a copy of your data
Email support@getmodl.app, or use Account → Support → Report a problem, and ask for a copy of the data MODL holds about you. We'll answer within 30 days, after confirming the request comes from you.
Withdraw AI photo consent
In MODL 1.17 or later, turn it off in Account → Privacy → AI photo processing. MODL then stops sending your body photo for try-ons from that device, and asks for your OK before the next one. The switch is per device: turn it off on each device you use MODL on. Your photo stays saved in your account. Earlier versions don't have this switch: update MODL, or email support@getmodl.app to withdraw it. On any version, deleting your account removes everything, your photos included.
Calendar, notification & location access
Asked for when first needed, and changeable anytime in iOS Settings → MODL.
Notifications
Account → Preferences → Notifications lets you turn each kind of notification on or off.
Data correction
Edit your details anytime in Account: Measurements for your height, weight and sizes; Shopping for to switch between Menswear and Womenswear; and Photos for your body photo. Shopping for needs MODL 1.17 or later; on an earlier version, email support@getmodl.app to switch between Menswear and Womenswear.
Report a problem or contact us
Account → Support → Report a problem, or email support@getmodl.app.
Children
MODL is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App Store age rating is set accordingly.
Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. Deleting your account takes effect immediately; stored files are removed within minutes. Crash reports age out on Sentry's standard retention schedule. Aggregate analytics that don't identify you (e.g. what share of users saved a try-on last month) may be kept longer to inform product decisions.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when we add features or change service providers. We'll update the date above, and for material changes we'll tell you in the app.
